The Ark of the CovenantPossibly the best known of the "Lost Relics" next to The Grail itself. The Ark is described in the Old Testament in the greatest of detail giving the reader a magnificent list of every material used in its construction and even the design and statistics for its manufacture. Originally to house the "Tables Of The Law" of the twelve tribes of Israel and instituted by Moses, The Ark was carried at the head if the Israelite Host as it journeyed through lands described in The Bible on its way to the founding of the Jewish Nation of Israel Always hidden from profane eyes, The Ark was tended only by the High Priest, and its presence was kept veiled first in the Tabernacle and later in the Holy Of Holies in the Temple Of Solomon in Jerusalem itself. As with so many other relics, the fate of The Ark is shrouded in legend and mystery, revered by the Israelites as the very embodiment of God Himself on earth this strange and awesomely powerful object lay for centuries, it is believed, in the Temple of Solomon being administered to by the priesthood, and then during the reign of a king called Manasseh it inexplicably vanishes!!! Many have tried to follow the journey of The Ark as it was supposedly spirited away to safety, but so far it has eluded, or that's how it appears, any discovery. The Ark has been linked over the years to many groups and sects, from the Templars to the Orthodox Ethiopians, but will its resting-place ever be verified? The facts that surround it are as strange as the legends. |
